Laboratory

Our in-house laboratory allows us to perform many types of testing that can aid in the diagnosis and treatment of your pet. We are able to perform many tests as they are needed for your cat's care, including:

• Blood tests
• Urine tests, including bacterial culture
• Skin scrapes and fungal testing
• Test for viruses (Feline parvovirus (panleukopenia), Feline Leukemia Virus, and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
• Heartworm disease
• Fecal examinations by various methods - testing for the presence of various intestinal worms, single-celled organisms (such as coccidia, Giardia and Tritrichomonas), and pathogenic bacteria such as Clostridium, identification of tapeworm species and origin, and detection of the presence of skin mites and lung worms through fecal testing
• Ear cytology
• Mass cytology
• Skin cytology
• Ocular and nasal cytology
• Gastric mucosal cytology
• Complete blood counts
• Chemistries
• Blood gases
• Body fluid analysis including assessments of bile, pleural or abdominal effusions, bronchial-alveolar lavage and tracheal washes
• Blood typing and cross-matching

We also utilize an outside laboratory for performing urine culture species ID and sensitivity testing, biopsy, histopathology, thyroid testing and other, less-common tests. This outside laboratory is IDEXX Diagnostics Labs. IDEXX Diagnostics Labs can provide us with quick results for a wide variety of diseases, including the following types of tests:

• Bacterial culture species identification and sensitivity testing
• Comprehensive thyroid panels
• Cytological and dermatological consultations
• Histopathology
• Phenobarbital titers
• Blood-borne parasite testing

In addition, we partner with other laboratories for many other tests, including IFA confirmation tests for Feline Leukemia Virus, Western blot confirmation testing for FIV, bladder stone analysis and identification, allergy testing, aldosterone and testosterone testing, parathyroid testing, genetic testing, and testing for rabies.
